On The Day He Left Heaven

I wrote this some time ago. It's my personal poetic telling of the Christmas story as I understand it. I thought I would share it with you all during this Holiday season. For those of you who celebrate Christmas, have a merry one. And for those of you who do not Happy Holy-Days which ever ones you celebrate. One God...One Love...One...

On The Day He Left Heaven

All heaven was silent
On the day he left
Though his mission was of love

The Cherubim ceased to sing
The Seraphim quieted their wings
For he had descended from above

And yet on earth
They bustled and hustled
As though nothing was new

None of them realizing
Love, peace, and goodwill
Would come with the midnight dew

The men were worried
About Rome and its taxes
And the women were worried about the men

While Mary and Joseph
Wandered about the city
For no one would let them in

Gabriel and Michael turned their heads
So they would not have to see
As God the Father whispered
“This is the way it has to be”

Finally there was one soul
Whom God had touched
He said, “There’s a stable out back
I know it isn’t much”

“We’ll take it.” Joseph said
Wanting his wife out of the night air
And God the Father smiled a little smile
As the angels began to prepare

For Mary’s time had fully come
She was about to give birth
Everything was set in motion
It was time for Jesus to enter earth

So God the Father
Searched the earth
To see who he would tell

And it was not
Jewish dignitaries
To whom the honor fell

“See those men right there
The shepherds at rest
We’ll tell them first
That would be best”

And he sent the angels down
To tell the story
Of the beautiful Christ child
Just sent from glory

They told them
He would save the world
From all its evil things

They told them
Of the peace, the joy
And goodwill he would bring

They ascended back to heaven
And those shepherds they left behind
Decided that this Christ child
They would try to find

So Michael and Gabriel
Weren’t quit as said anymore
‘Cause they knew his mission was of love

But they still wished
That he didn’t have to
Descend from above

And during various points
Of his time on earth
They turned their heads
So they wouldn’t have to see

And God the Father
Would still whisper
“This is the way it has to be”

But all of heaven was silent
On the day he left
Though his mission was of love

The Cherubim ceased to sing
The Seraphim quieted their wings
For Christ had descended from above
